My sister who is battling cancer is so lucky to be in The U of M Hospital, where they have a state of the art cancer center. She has access to cutting edge chemotherapy and support drugs and therapies. When one goes in for therapy, it is like you have gone into a hotel. There is little of the hospital look. Patient and family waiting areas are spacious. There is a library of cancer resource materials - info on support groups, complementary medicines and supplements, family counseling. There is even a wig bank. There is a pantry where patients and their family can just get food: coffee, tea, hot choco, juices, muffins, bagels, biscuits, butter, jam, cheese. There is even a roaming lady with a cart offering to refill your drink and give more biscuits. There is art everywhere. The hospital complex is also beautiful. Here are some photos I took of it. | Ganda nitong kuha mo. Pero tama ka, the cam is technically not proficient. Medyo low res, low def. |
| Swerte naman ng mga bantay sa hospital na to. : ) |
 | I think the idea behind this is to make the environment pleasant for both the cancer patients and their families. The Cancer Pavilion of VGH (the training hospital of UBC) has a similar set-up. How's your sister doing gwiz? |
 | gwiz wrote on Nov 13, '06 Yup, medyo frustrating itong Moshima dvcam that can take stills, record video and MP3. It is actually a prototype model that Boboy had his friends buy in the last AV Convention in Las Vegas. Marami nga siyang functions pero very limited ang capability. Para akong may hawak na brownie camera, hehe. |
 | gwiz wrote on Nov 13, '06 How's your sister doing gwiz? She is doing fine as fine can be. She just finished the aggressive biweekly chemo and now will be having weekly regular chemo for the next three months. Then a sort of maintenance chemo every three weeks for the next 12 months. She is facing a really tough battle.
She is fortunate that she has access to U of M (she is a cardio-thoracic operating room nurse there). They are using the latest (and very expensive!) medications on her. These, prayers and her spunky will to live would most likely pull her through. |
 | We'll pray for my one and only ninang ;-)
Its ok kahit di masyado defined yung pictures. but i suggest Nay, you capture moments. If its like a brownie cam, moments captured will be beautiful. Kahit mga kwnetuhan moments ninyo nila Tita Nina (who I miss!)... Emily's kids, Emily of course, etc...
Ang gaganda ng mga puno! ;-)
NAY! Will send you an email for my hilings! hihihihi ;-p |

You have to flip the screen open like a dvcam. So unwieldy. Just shooting stills is like shooting a video. Sa totoo lang, even if I have it in my bag all the time, nakakatamad gamitin. =( It is like a brownie cam in terms of its capability - parang one opening lang. Even the zoom is so short. |
 | gwiz wrote on Nov 13, '06 NAY! Will send you an email for my hilings! hihihihi ;-p Give me your bilins asap. Am doing my shopping na this week because I will pack by next week already. |
 | Praying for Tita Gina everyday :) She will be fine, super lakas ng loob ni tita gina! only got to meet her for a few days but you immediately see her "spunk" :) and the fact that she has access to these great medical achievements and is surrounded by her family, she'll recover in no time :)
will you be meeting up with zach pa in NY nanay? :) |
 | gwiz wrote on Nov 13, '06 will you be meeting up with zach pa in NY nanay? :) We aborted our NYC trip. Tita Gina is not very strong and we do not want to leave her behind naman. |
 | ah of course, fully understand. nabalitaan ko lang na may chance and syempre na-excite ako. :p |
 | Great to learn that your sis, Gina is recuperating well. See the wonders prayers and advanced tech can do! I met her on your dad's wake and she looked healthy that time. Did you know then that she has the big C? |
 | Gina first had cancer of the breast in 2001. At that time, she had radical mastectomy of both breasts and had chemo. She would have regular check-ups after that.
At the time of my father's wake, she was clear. She noticed a lump in her neck last September. Yes, she is doing fine now – thanks to all the prayers of friends and family. But most of all, because my sister is one gutsy fighter. I know she will survive. |
 | More prayers from us po ms gwiz..... :) |
 | hi gwiz. i just got to read through the exchanges in this album and I am happy to know about your sister. I will include her in my prayers for a speedy and assured recovery. The shots reminded me of when my son Christophe was operated on for his brain tumor in September 2005. That's also how we described the Asian Hospital in Alabang, "like a hotel." But the other 'features' you mentioned aren't there like a library, wig bank, free food...Impressive, and yes, comforting for the families of the patients. Christophe is very well now. I hope your sister Gina will survive this, as she is the fighter you say that she is and this be God's excuse for pulling so many people together to pray and be united by her sickness. |
 | gwiz wrote on Dec 10, '06 Thanks, Choie. I didn't know about Christophe. Kaya pala you call him your miracle baby. You have been blessed, too. |
 | pupu nta ba sila sa banyo.; ) hehehehe |
